Academics at a Glance

[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi. My name's Emily. I'm a junior at Marquette. I'm studying athletic training, and also physical therapy, and I'm from Orange County, California. Marquette being a Jesuit institution, a lot of the goal of education is not only to make you knowledgeable in your field, but also knowledgeable as a person in your field acting as a citizen of the world. So I think that a lot of the classes really challenge you to think outside of just what you're studying and how to apply it. I think definitely the core curriculum here at Marquette is rigorous because I didn't know what I wanted to major in until my sophomore year. But they really prepared me from our communication classes my sophomore, junior, and senior years. But they gave me a foundation to work upon first via taking some classes in the comm school before I'd taken some core curriculum classes. So I mean right now we're in the engineering building. It's full of technology. Whether that's our fully-functioning machine shop on the first floor, so I'm fully machine shop trained. I can use CNC mills, lathes. I know how to weld. So it's really cool that those technologies are at our fingertips right here in our building and able to be used. We do a lot of hands-on learning at Marquette. I definitely see a lot of that in my education. Being an athletic training student, we work a lot on each other to learn different tasks and it's great that we have the opportunity to practice what we're learning in a more applicable environment. [REPRUCIENDO MÚSICA] Hola. Me llamo Emily. Soy estudiante del tercer año en Marquette. Estudio entrenamiento atlético y también terapia física, y soy del Condado de Orange, California. Al ser Marquette una institución jesuita, en gran parte, la finalidad de la enseñanza no solo es que te conviertas en un experto en tu campo, sino en una persona experta en tu campo que además actúe como ciudadano del mundo. Yo pienso que muchas de las clases de verdad te desafían a pensar más allá de lo que estudias y la forma en que puedes aplicarlo. Definitivamente creo que el plan de estudios básico de Marquette es extensivo porque yo no sabía en qué quería especializarme hasta mi segundo año de universidad. Pero me prepararon muy bien desde nuestras clases de comunicación, durante mi segundo, tercero y cuarto año. Pero me dieron una base sobre la cual trabajar primero al tomar algunas clases en la escuela de comunicación antes de tomar algunas otras del plan de estudios básico. Me refiero a que ahora estamos en el edificio de ingeniería. Está lleno de tecnología. Este es nuestro taller de maquinaría completamente funcional, así que estoy bien capacitada en diferentes máquinas. Puedo usar tornos y molinos CNC. Sé soldar. Es realmente genial que estás tecnologías estén a nuestro alcance aquí en nuestro edificio Y que podamos usarlas. Aprendemos mucho de manera práctica en Marquette. Definitivamente noto que esto está muy presente en mi educación. Como estudiantes de entrenamiento atlético, trabajamos mucho conjuntamente para aprender diferentes tareas y es genial que tengamos la oportunidad de practicar lo que aprendemos en un entorno más práctico.
