Beyond the Classroom

[music playing] My name is Katie Starsky. I'm studying elementary education. And I'm from Mequon, Wisconsin. Students at Marquette definitely get a lot of experience outside the classroom, regardless of what your major is. For example, I am in education. And so starting our freshman year, we get to apply ourselves into classrooms within the community and get some real-world, hands-on experience as future teachers. Getting around Milwaukee is fairly easy. You don't always have to have a car. A lot of people around here have bikes. A lot of people are taking the bus. All students have a bus pass, which is really helpful to just hop on the bus and go anywhere in Milwaukee, as well as its surrounding suburbs. Here at Marquette, you have this awesome opportunity to go out and find internships and co-ops. And this is when you really take what you learned in the classroom and apply it to real life. I was out in Columbus, Ohio, working for Honda R&D, working in a professional atmosphere with engineers, growing every day, learning every day. It was an amazing opportunity. That will prepare me for after graduation for the rest of my career.
