My name is Rosemary Florido. I am currently a senior studying biomedical engineering with a concentration in biomechanics. In high school, I was a little bit more timid, a little more on the shy side, like I never stepped up to take leadership opportunities. I would wait for someone else to do something and then just follow along.
I actually applied to a lot of schools. And I came here. It was a pretty dreary day because it was in the middle of April. But the second that I stepped on campus, I felt like it was home. This was the school for me.
I kind of threw myself into everything. My friend told me about Bayanihan. She wanted me to run for freshman representative for our class. And I was like, sure, why not? It's a new experience. I want to be a new person. You know? I ran for the position, got it, and I feel like, from that point forward, that was like the starting point of my metamorphosis.

As an organization we do two different shows, one in the first semester, one in second semester. So for the show, I am an actor in the show. And I am a dancer, and I am also one of the choreographers. Through Alpha Phi Omega, I was able to meet and talk with people that I wouldn't have encountered on a day-to-day basis here. Through Alpha Phi Omega, we want to provide opportunities for leadership, opportunities of service, and also a brotherhood through fellowship and friendship. Hello, Snapchat. We out here exploring Milwaukee with my awesome orientation group.

Honestly, if you told high school me that I would be doing all of these things, I would not believe you. Everything that has happened to me at Marquette has been so encompassing. It has allowed me to grow spiritually, mentally, personally, academically. Being a leader through the various options that I've had, I was able to just grow into the person that I subconsciously knew that I could be and just brought it to light.
